Wow! I just read about this and wanted to share with you guys! According to New York Times, Tide Laundry Detergent could expose you to the cancer causing chemical “Dioxane.” The test conducted showed Problematic levels of 1,4 dioxane in Tide Free & Gentle (fragrance free) and Tide Original Scent. Smaller amounts were found in their Bounce Free & Sensitive dryer sheets. You can read the entire article at New York Times site.
Procter & Gamble Authorities are claiming that the levels are “Dioxane” are below the cancer causing risk factor. I will be interested to see how this story unfolds. I know this is VERY ALARMING to me! I will not be using these products until further tests are conducted or Tide agrees to remove Dioxane from it’s ingredients!
Let us know about your thoughts on this?! Will you still be buying and using Tide Detergent?!
(Thanks, The Coupon Centsation!)

Wow!! I use this for my babies stuff!!
I wonder what the production of it is causing those of us who live in Cincinnati OH (P&G headquarters)
More media hogswallop. Next they’ll find cancer in the air we breathe.. oh wait, they already have. Jeez.
OMGOSH this one is suppose to be the one FREE of chemicals WHAT???? I agree with Stephinie
thank you for pointing this out, I think a better title would be “tide found to contain chemicals believed to cause cancer” it may be a little less eye catching than tide causes cancer, but it is more honest, since there was no mention of anyone actually getting cancer from tide… as far as the issue itself, companies fall back on their laurels claiming miniscule and trace ammounts…blah blah BS! when you add all the trace amounts up from all the products normal people use it becomes an issue, and the “free and clear” is something touted for BABIES for GOD’s sake!!! no shame on you TIDE…for me there is no “acceptable amount” of a toxic or cancer causing chemical that is INTENDED to come in contact with BABIES!!!
It seems that no matter what we eat or breathe or use is kiliing us. And truth be known, it probabaly has been for years! I try not to go thru life thinking about it on a daily basis because honestly, its too depressing. So, when they prove it, I will stop using it.
We have used Ecos laundry soap for a couple of years. It costs about $13 for a 210 HE load bottle at Costco (way more expensive in the regular store). It is 100% natural and in bold letters on the label it is 1,4 Dioxane free and is not heavily scented like Tide. We love it.
Thanks Carolyn! I may have to try Ecos.
all these laundry detergents and dryer sheets and softeners are not safe …..
its been known for years
but there are great new products available like 7 th generation, green works not that expensive and safe to use …plants based ingiedients
and few others
also its so easy and innexpensive to make Your own safe laundry detergents and softeners there is so many recipies on U tube……
its really the safest way to go with small babies ..
it is very scary how big companies are loading their products with toxins …..
I stopped buying P&G products years ago when it was disclosed that they test their products on animals… besides I am allergic to Tide and have been since I was very young. However my mom swears by it and has been using it for over 40 years… and about 2 years ago she found out she has breast cancer. Since then it has spread to her lung so even though the company claims the levels are within safe limits…. what about years and years of exposing yourself to the chemical. Just another reason for me to continue to buy organic and avoid P&G at all costs.
I use a WONDERFUL laundry detergent sent directly to my door! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! It is called MelaPower and I can give you all the information on how to have it delivered to your door as well!
