Wow! Have you heard that Milk Prices will be rising?!  According to CBS News, Milk prices will be rising if Congress refuses to pass the farm bill! Unless the bill is passed, milk prices will be expected to DOUBLE! In some areas of the country a gallon of milk is already priced at $4.00, so that would mean milk would be $8.00 a gallon?!

Congress has not renewed the farm bill that renews federal support for dairy farmers. They must do something by December 31st or we will be seeing a huge increase in milk prices! This would not only affect milk prices, but could possible affect the price of  infant formula!

If this happens:

* Use coupons to save on other items in order to leave more money for milk

* Store Rewards can be used for buying milk, learn how to use store rewards at CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens

* Walmart and some other stores allow Overage! Use this overage to pay for milk.

So, let us know, if milk prices double will you still buy milk?

Buy a cow! :) There are three of us in the house, and only one drinks milk… she goes through at least 2 gallons a week, but we will NOT be paying $8, or even $6 or $7 a gallon, for that matter. She’ll either have to get used to almond milk, or get used to milking a cow!

This is very scarey. we use around 8 gallons a week. big cuts will have to be made to afford milk. not good at all.

i will still buy milk but less milk..well, I dont buy much milk anyways. 1 gallon can last me a couple weeks and I guess I could stretch it to last a week or two longer

By the way, our Walmart stores here in Maine do not allow overage anymore, and our state enforces a minimum price per gallon on milk, so we are currently not allowed to use coupons on milk unless we buy it by the quart or half gallon… or so I was told back when we got those $1/gallon coupons last year…

I hope everyone realizes that if milk prices rise, the price of ALL dairy will also rise. THINK ABOUT IT.. your yoplait, cheese, cottage cheese, half and half, coffee creamers with dairy, creme cheese, ice cream, sour cream, ricotta, formula the list goes on and on… Just like when the petro/ gas prices go up, we pay more at the pump, to heat our homes, to pave our driveways, etc. This is one sign of a lot worse to come. Come on goverment- get it together! Babies and kids with no formula/ milk… tisk, tisk, tisk

That’s so true Dayna! I didn’t think that would mean cheese, yogurt and everything with milk in it! YIKES!

I read today that they pushed through a one year extension on the farm bill! Milk prices should stay the same, at least until next year if the procrastinate like they did this year.

My friend raised 9 kids and she would half a gallon of whole milk and add 4 cups of water to each half gallon. It takes some getting used to, so if you want to try it I’d start with 1 cup of water then work your way up. It helps stretch your milk budget.

Milk in Alaska is almost $6.00 now I could not see paying $12, looks like I’ll be freezing buttermilk for the crisis!

I buy a gallon of milk & already separate it into two half gallons. My husband is lactose intolerant & can’t drinkit. So we don’t use much thank goodness. But I take one of the half gallons & put in the fridge. The other goes in the freezer until I’m ready for it. When taken out of the freezer, it seems to last longer b/c it stays frozen for about 2-3 days in the fridge until it completely thaws.

I tried freezing milk once but when it thawed, it was lumpy.

Local government would probably “have a cow” and forbid the community from buying one! >.<

HEY, listen people…this is a subsidy to the farmers no different than any other WELFARE program…if the government does NOT pass teh bill, milk will only be at a free market price, just like other food products you buy…Why does the government just not hand out MILK VOUCHER CHECKS to people instead, it’d be cheaper!!! Think, how far are y ou willing to let your government subsidize YOUR LIVING by others tax payers money? Heck, why not subsidize guns for poor people living in teh ghetto, that’s a constitutional right! Where does this stop? We already have a 17 trillion dollar debt, you people are going to break this nation with all this welfare! It has to stop, I say, let it stop here and we should be paying the bills for what milk costs, just like peanuts, oats, oh, wait…I think they are subsidized to!
