Let’s face it, a homemade body scrub just feels so luxurious. If you were to head to a high end spa you would easily pay $75 and up for an all-over body scrub. Or you can spend up to $50 on a fancy body scrub from a local department store and do your own at home. But in reality, is $50 and up really in your budget for a scrub? While it might be tempting to treat yourself (I know you deserve it!) there are more budget savvy ways to experience body scrub luxury! Make your own DIY 3 Ingredient Homemade Body Scrub with sugar.

Why buy when you can make a homemade body scrub out of basic ingredients yourself? All you need are 3 ingredients: sugar, body oil and a nice, warm bath! In just a few minutes, you can whip up your body scrub that will rival even the fanciest of spas! It only takes about ten minutes, less than the time it would take you to purchase a scrub at the department store.

Sound interesting? Is your skin yearning to be refreshed? Take a peek at what you need to make your own batch!

Ingredients:

  • white sugar
  • oil (extra virgin coconut oil is nice, but you can use any type of oil)
  • a bowl for mixing
  • essential oils if you choose
  • a spoon

Directions:

  • Carefully mix 1 part oil to 2 parts sugar. Place anywhere from a few tablespoons to a cup of sugar in your mixing bowl. The amount you decide will just determine the amount of scrub you yield. Place half that amount (of the sugar you used) of oil. Mix with a spoon. Don’t panic if the salt settles to the bottom. It’s totally natural that it will divide like that.
  • To enhance the smell or mood effect potential of your scrub, put 5 drops of an essential oil into your mixture. Mix with spoon. Essential oil options might be lavender or vanilla.
  • Step into a bath tub and put on loofah mitts. If you don’t have a bath mitt, don’t worry, you can use your hands. Take a spoonful of the mixture into your palms or your gloves and then rub the mixture all over your skin in a circular motion.
  • Once entire body is scrubbed well, rinse thoroughly.
  • Pat skin dry.

The oil from this scrub can build up on the bathtub bottom. Make sure to clean it up so the next person who gets in doesn’t slip. Any leftover scrub can be stored in an air tight container. Some people put their in a refrigerator but that is not a must. If stored properly your scrub should last several weeks.

Want to jazz your scrub up even more? Add a few drops of lemon, or a few drops of jojoba to enhance it even further. A touch of brown sugar can also add a fancy touch as will snippets of fresh herbs. Whichever way you choose to mix yours up, you are sure to come up with a delightful scrub that makes bathtub a luxurious one! Why not whip up a little extra and give some to a friend? Before you know it, all of your friends will be asking for a jar of your special concoction!

I make salt and sugar scrubs at home all the time and love them! I’ve found that my favorite essential oil combo is lavender and eucalyptus

If you make
1 Part olive oil
1 part almond oil
Brown sugar
A pinch of honey for antibacterial effect

It’s amazing. I do massage and body work and it’s less “sticky” all natural no bleaching to sugar – work in a skilled nursing facility and the people absolutely love it: ) worth a try
