Bottle Cap Necklaces are extremely popular! They also make great gifts and party favors. We used them at my child’s Disney Frozen Party as party favors to give to all his friends. They were a huge hit!
How to Make Bottle Cap Necklaces:
MATERIALS:
*1″ scrapbook circle hole punchOR digital bottle cap picture
sheets
*modge podge dimensional magic glue
* Ribbon or Chainw/ claspsfor making into necklace
DIRECTIONS:
STEP 1: Using your circle hole punch or your bottle cap pictures, cut pictures out and use rubber to glue to the inside of the bottle cap. Let dry completely before moving on to step 2
STEP 2: Fill bottle caps 3/4 of the way full withmodge podge dimensional magic glue(making sure NOT to cover the hole in your bottle cap). It will look white but will dry clear. It takes approximately 12 -24 hours to dry completely.
TIP: Keep your eye out for any bubbles that may form, you should be able to pop the bubbles while it’s still wet with a toothpick or your finger nail.
STEP 3: Once completely dry, add yourOpen jump ringsand then your ribbon or chain!
FUN WAY To Package them for a PARTY:
1) Stamp a heavy card stock with a design to fit your bottle cap necklace. We used a Snowflake Stamp with a blue ink pad (for our Frozen Inspired Necklaces!).
2) Package in a clear cellophane bags. I also included an adorable Frozen Bag Topper on ours. You can print this if you decide to make Frozen necklaces too!

Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial-I have been trying to make them, but hasn’t work with the types of glues I was told to use so I hope to try this way. How can I get the Frozen Printable to use in the bottle caps? Thank you!
I’ve been dying to know how to make those bottle caps with pics just never figured out how I love how easy it is! Quick question though, where do we get the pics to put in them at?? & best place to purchase lightweight bottle caps? Thanks for the tips!:)
Super Easy! If you click “Bottle Caps” in materials list, it will take you to where you can purchase them. I got the pictures from etsy and printed them. Let us know if you have any more questions. I’d love to hear how your necklaces turn out!
I’ve been trying to make bottle caps using the Mod Podge for hairbows, but my pictures seem to bleed a bit, any tips?
I wonder if a thin coat of clear nail polish would work???
In my experience I’ve had to use a very thin coat of mod podge and cover the printed area in 1 stroke. Otherwise it bleeds. After the first coat dries you can make sure to get good/moderate coverage with your 2nd and 3rd coats. I use 3 coats minimum on the printed side. Usually just 1 moderate or 2 thin on the back of the paper. Hope this helps!
I seal the picture with mod podge gloss before gluing it in the bottlecap and putting dimensional magic over it. Brush strokes disappear under the dimensional magic.

I would also like to know what you use to make the hole in the bottle cap.
I don’t know how you would make your own hole in the bottle cap. .but Michael’s sell the ones with holes already in the bottle cap
They make a hole punch specifically for bottle caps, or you can use a crop a dile, or if you have no tools avail you can punch a small hole with a picture hanging nail. There are tons of videos on you tube.
For the image, does it make a difference the kind of paper you print it on? Regular copy paper vs cardstock?
No it does not matter. I used regular printer paper.
I’ve had better luck with cardstock. It’s not as quick to wrinkle and move.
Love the packaging idea! I make similar necklaces for sale at a fall festival. I think this will make the best finishing touch.
To make a hole in a bottle cap buy a bottle cap punch. Get one at Hobby Lobby for about $15. Be sure to get their 40% off coupon first.
Once you have the ribbon on, How do you close it? Do you use specific clasp? I am making some gymnastic bottle cap necklaces for my daughters birthday….just trying to figure out the best way to make them 🙂
If you use ribbon just tie it off to the size you want the necklace! Hope that helps Amy!
Tie them or add a clasp. Hope that helps!
Once dry, will the modge lodge glue be waterproof? I’m making key chains and wonder about it getting wet?
Yes it’s waterproof!
How many did you get out of one bottle of the mod podge?
